Effective bounce management is crucial for the success of your mailing. If an email cannot be delivered, it is referred to as an undeliverable message or a bounce.
A distinction is made between soft bounces and hard bounces:
- A soft bounce occurs when there are temporary delivery problems.
- A hard bounce indicates permanent issues, such as invalid email addresses or a recipient’s server blocking delivery by placing the sender on a blocklist.
The process of bounce management involves monitoring and responding to these undeliverable emails. In this guide, you will learn more about the different types of bounces as well as the option to remove soft bounces.
To open the Bounce Management Tool, select Administration > Bounce Management in the menu. The overview lists all email addresses to which the eCard could not be delivered (marked as undeliverable) and the time when this was detected.

For each address, it is specified whether it is a hard bounce or a soft bounce – i.e. whether a permanent or temporary issue has prevented successful delivery.
Examples of Hard Bounces (permanently undeliverable):
- The specified email address does not exist
- The domain name does not exist
- The recipient’s mail server rejects incoming emails or places the sender on a blocklist
Examples of Soft Bounces (temporarily undeliverable):
- The recipient’s mailbox is full
- The recipient’s mail server is temporarily offline or unavailable
The pen icon can be used to edit a bounce and assign a new status (Available, Hard Bounce, Soft Bounce).
The trash icon can be used to remove a bounce from the list.
The more bounces occur, the lower the overall reputation of your mailing will be rated. This increases the risk that future mailings will achieve poorer delivery rates.
Additionally, you have the option to manually add further bounce email addresses or import them via a CSV file.
